2021 Annual Meeting

Picture
Alice Glover presented letters sent to her from Alan Minge that discussed his efforts to buy the Old Church in the early 1960s, and finally letters that explained how the Corrales Historical Society came into being in 1973 to save the church from deterioration. Alice was a founding member of CHS.

Michelle Frechette spoke lovingly of her family’s close relationship with their neighbor Alan Minge. We learned of his dedication to preserving historical buildings and culture, both here in Corrales and in his first and last home in Kansas.

Nan Kimball reads from the plaque that will be mounted inside the Old Church. It notes Alan Minge’s key role in saving the Old Church.

Nan Kimball, President of CHS (2019-21), presents certificates to a dynamic duo, both whose achievements over the year earned them Member of the Year designation. Kay Yoest, left, as Ways and Means Chair secured several grants for the Society; Kitty Tynan, center, member of the Archives Committee, scanned and placed hundreds of historical photographs into the UNM archives site, now available to the public.

Nan Kimball holds the bag filled with entries in the Celtic Quilt Raffle as Ben Blackwell draws out the winning ticket. Pat DiVivi was the lucky winner—and a friend to Betty Blackwell, a long-time CHS member and the creator of the beautiful quilt, shown at lower right. Ben donated the quilt to CHS after his wife’s death. The raffle brought in $660 to CHS. Unfortunately, there were many disappointed hopefuls whose names were not drawn.
